PostDecks

The image size for every format the tool renders.

Social media image sizes

Every platform crops an image to its own shape, and most take more than one. Below, for each of the 12 formats PostDecks renders, is the size it expects, the other shapes it accepts, and which edges of a full-screen image the app covers with its own buttons.

Last checked . These sizes come from the same source that drives the preview tool, so if one were wrong the previews would be wrong with it.

Full-screen formats

Stories and TikTok fill the screen, and the app draws its own name, buttons and caption over the top and bottom of your image. Keep text and logos out of these edges:

Instagram Story

Keep text out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% at each side. On a 1080 by 1920 image, that is about 269 pixels from the top, 672 from the bottom and 65 from each side.

Facebook Story

Keep text out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% at each side. On a 1080 by 1920 image, that is about 269 pixels from the top, 672 from the bottom and 65 from each side.

TikTok post

Keep text out of the top 12.5%, the bottom 34.4% and 11.1% at each side, plus the lower right corner where the buttons stand. On a 1080 by 1920 image, that is about 240 pixels from the top, 660 from the bottom and 120 from each side.

Press Safe zones on a Story or TikTok preview to shade these edges over your own image.

Questions

What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 × 1350, a 4:5 portrait. Instagram also shows 3:4 at 1080 × 1440, square at 1080 × 1080 and landscape at 1080 × 566. The app has shown 3:4 uncropped since May 2025, but Meta's publishing API still stops at 4:5, so if you post through a scheduler, check it takes 3:4. A taller photo is cropped to fit.
What is the best image size for a LinkedIn post?
1200 × 627 (1.91:1) is LinkedIn's landscape size, and it also takes square at 1080 × 1080 and portrait at 1080 × 1350. A portrait image takes up more of the feed.
What size is a Story on Instagram and Facebook?
1080 × 1920, a 9:16 full-screen frame. Keep text and logos out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% at each side: on a 1080 by 1920 image that is about 269 pixels from the top, 672 from the bottom and 65 from each side.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
3840 × 2160 at 16:9, with a minimum width of 640 pixels, according to YouTube's own help page. Guides that still quote 1280 by 720 are repeating what that page said before YouTube raised it.
What size is a Pinterest Pin?
1000 × 1500, a 2:3 portrait. Pinterest also takes square at 1000 × 1000.
Are these sizes up to date?
They were last checked on 7 October 2026, against each platform's own help pages and developer docs. They come from the same source that sizes the PostDecks previews, so if one were wrong the previews would be wrong with it.

For caption lengths and where each platform cuts text off, see social media character limits. For how many photos fit in one post, see multiple photos per post.

Rather than checking sizes by hand, drop your image in and see the crop on the real post.
